PAST PROGRESSIVE  VS  SIMPLE PAST.

*** PAST PROGRESSIVE.

-Actions in progress at a stated time in the past.
He was driving to work at 9 o'clock yesterday afternoon.
-Actions that were happening simultaneously in the past.
Bob was walking while ben was running to catch the bus.
-Past actions in progress interrupted by another action. The action that interrupted the action in progress is in the simple past.
Jenny was having a shower When the phone rang.

*** SIMPLE PAST.
-Action that happened at a stated time in the past.
He left yesterday afternoon.
-Past actions that happened one after the other.
She opened the door, went into the office and walked toward the desk.

***Exercise.
-PAST PROGRESSIVE-

1.- She was walking in the park yesterday morning.
2.- Daniela was dancing while Nadia was speaking with her boyfriend. 
3.- Natalia was eating when the door crashed. 
4.- Fernanda was seeing  the t.v when came her mom. 
5.- Francisco was playing  video game while her brother was making the homework. 

-SIMPLE PAST-
1.- He played soccer with us.
2.- She crossed the street and  walked along the street. 
3.- Susy cried because broke doll.
4.- Andrea played with dog.

5.- Esteban drove.

GRAMMAR. Past Progressive (questions/short answers)

**Questions.                                       **Short Answers.

1.- Was I running?                           Yes, I was. / No, I wasn't
2.- Were you running?                     Yes, you were. / No, you weren't
3.- Was he/she/it running?                Yes, he/she/it was. / No,                          he/she/it wasn´t
4.- Were we/you/they running?         Yes, we/you/they were / No, we/you/they weren't

***EXERCISE.

1.- Was I speaking?
Yes, I was speaking/ No, I wasn´t. I was making the exercise.
2.- Were you crying?
Yes, I was crying/ No, I wasn't. I was laughing
3.- Was He sitting?
Yes, I was sitting/No, I wasn't.
4.- Was She singing?
Yes, she was singing./ No, she wasn't.
5.- Were they dancing?
Yes, they were dancing./No, they weren't.

GRAMMAR. Past Progressive.

Form: was/were + main verb + ing
Use: We use the past progressive to talk about actions in progress at a certain time in the past.

**Example:
1.- I was running.
     I wasn´t running.
2.- He/she/it was running.
     He/she/it wasn´t  running.
3.- We/You/They  were running.
     We/You/They weren't running.

**Time expressions used with the past progressive.
While, When, as, all day/night/morning, yesterday etc.

**Spelling.
-Verb + -ing work - ing
-verb - e + ing  dance - dancing
-One syllable verbs ending in vowel + consonant --->  double consonant + ing  sit - sitting
-a stressed vowel  between two consonant  ---> double consonant + ing
begin - beginning BUT travel - traveling.

**Exercise.
1.- Fall ---> falling
2.- cry -----> crying
3.- Make ----> making
4.- Sit ----> sitting
5.- Help ------> helping
6.- Hear ------> hearing
7.- swim -----> swimming
8.- watch ----> watching
